PREPARING FOR YOUR SESSION
A little guide to help you feel relaxed, prepared and excited for what's to come.
Before We Meet
Firstly, thank you.
I'm so glad you've chosen me to capture this chapter of your story.
Whether this is your first baby or you're soaking up these last few weeks before your family grows again, pregnancy is such a unique season. It can feel exciting, overwhelming, emotional and incredibly ordinary all at once, and before long it'll simply become part of your story.
I know having your photographs taken can feel a little daunting, especially if you've never done anything like this before, but I promise you don't need to arrive knowing what to do. My job is to gently guide you through the whole experience so you can simply enjoy slowing down for a little while.
This page is here to answer all those little questions that pop into your head before a session, from choosing a location to deciding what to wear, so that by the time we meet, you can simply look forward to it.
A little reminder...
You don't need to know how to pose.
You don't need to worry about looking at the camera.
You don't need to wait until you feel "ready."
You just need to turn up.
I'll take care of the rest.
One of my favourite parts of planning your session is finding the backdrop for your story.
Whether you're drawn to the coast, woodland or somewhere that's already special to you, I'll help you choose somewhere that feels right. Somewhere that quietly compliments your photographs without ever taking attention away from what's most important.
If you're not sure where to start, don't worry. Below are some of my favourite locations, each with their own feel, and if you have somewhere else in mind I'd absolutely love to hear about it.
Not sure which one to choose?
Tell me whether you're dreaming of the beach, woodland, long grasses or somewhere completely different and I'll happily help you decide.

Choosing What To Wear
One of the questions I'm asked most often is, "What should I wear?" The lovely thing is that there isn't a right or wrong answer. I want you to feel like yourself, just perhaps a little more intentional than you might dress for a trip to the supermarket!
The clothes you choose can have a huge impact on the overall feel of your photographs, but not because they need to be expensive or perfectly coordinated. My aim is always to create images that feel timeless, so years from now you'll still love looking back at them without feeling like they belong to a particular trend.
I tend to recommend soft, neutral tones and natural textures, as they allow the focus to stay exactly where it should be... on you and your growing bump.
Borrow From My Wardrobe
Making It Your Own
Whether you choose something from my wardrobe or wear something of your own, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and like yourself.
If your partner or little ones are joining us, I'd recommend keeping outfits simple too. Soft, neutral colours and natural textures photograph beautifully and allow the focus to stay on the connection between you rather than what you're wearing. There's no need to match exactly. In fact, choosing different shades and textures often creates a much more natural, timeless look.
If you're planning everyone's outfits and you'd like a second opinion, you're always welcome to send me a few photos. I'm more than happy to help.
Looking for a little inspiration?
Whether you're treating yourself to something new or simply looking for ideas, these are a few of my favourite places to browse.
ZARA • FREE PEOPLE • H&M • NOBODYS CHILD • RIVER ISLAND • VINTED (of course!)
A little tip...
If you're both wearing neutral tones, try choosing different textures rather than exactly the same colour. Linen, cotton and knitwear add depth without competing for attention.
Our Time Together
If you've never had professional photographs taken before, you might be wondering what actually happens during a maternity session.
The truth is, you don't need to worry about knowing what to do. I'll guide you throughout the whole session, gently directing you into flattering poses and natural movements that feel comfortable and effortless. My aim is never to make you feel stiff or overly posed, but to create elegant, timeless photographs that celebrate both you and this incredible season of your life.
We'll take our time, making the most of the beautiful light as the evening unfolds. If you've chosen to borrow something from my wardrobe, we'll usually have time for a couple of outfit changes too, giving you a little variety in your gallery.
If your partner or children are joining us, we'll capture a mixture of photographs together as well as plenty of beautiful portraits of you on your own. This is your story too, and I always want you to have photographs that celebrate your journey into motherhood.
Above all, I want the experience to feel relaxed. There's no pressure to perform or get everything right. I'll be there every step of the way, gently guiding you while leaving room for the genuine moments in between.
The Weather
Living in Cornwall, the weather doesn't always like to follow the forecast! If it's looking unsettled, don't worry. I'll keep an eye on it and be in touch if I think we need to adjust our plans. Some of my favourite sessions have happened under dramatic skies, so unless it's unsafe or pouring with rain, we'll usually go ahead.
What to Bring
You really don't need much, but these little things can make the session a little more comfortable.
Comfortable shoes for walking between locations
A warm coat to pop on between photographs
Water, especially on warmer evenings
A robe or dressing gown if you're borrowing sheer pieces
Any sentimental items you'd love to include
Timing
I'll always ask you to arrive a few minutes early so we can settle in without feeling rushed. Most maternity sessions last around an hour to an hour and a half, depending on the light, the location and whether little ones are joining us.
Dogs
If you'd love to include your dog, just let me know beforehand. They're always welcome, as long as someone can take them home after their photographs so we can finish the session together.
Toilets & Changing
Some of Cornwall's most beautiful locations don't have the most glamorous facilities! If you're borrowing something from my wardrobe or planning an outfit change, don't worry. I've got plenty of tricks up my sleeve and we'll make it work.
Just a Few Things
When Your Gallery Arrives
This is one of my favourite parts.
Within four weeks I'll send you a link to your private online gallery, where you'll be able to look through all of the carefully edited photographs from our time together.
My advice?
Don't rush it.
Pop the kettle on, curl up on the sofa and give yourself a little uninterrupted time to look through them. Pregnancy has a funny way of feeling endless one moment and gone the next, and I hope these photographs take you straight back to how it all felt.
From there you'll be able to download the photographs included in your collection, choose your favourites and, if you wish, order additional digital images, prints or artwork.
See You Soon
Thank you for trusting me with such a special chapter of your story.
I genuinely can't wait to meet you and create photographs you'll look back on for years to come.
If you think of any questions before your session, no matter how small, just send me a message.
Now all that's left is for us to meet.
I can't wait.
